The Magic of Bacon
My story starts with bacon. I always cook it in my big blue pot. The sizzle is the best sound in my kitchen.
We save the flavorful grease to cook our onions. It makes the whole soup taste rich and cozy. Doesn’t that smell amazing? It reminds me of my grandpa’s farm.
A Little Secret for Sweetness
You might wonder about the sugar. Canned tomatoes can be a little tart. A tiny bit of sugar makes them taste just right.
It doesn’t make the soup sweet. It just makes the tomato flavor sing. This little trick matters because it brings all the flavors together in harmony.
My Blender Adventure
Let me tell you about the first time I used an immersion blender. I was so nervous. I turned it on and soup went everywhere!
My cat ran away, and I had to clean the ceiling. I still laugh at that. So please, keep the blender head deep in the pot. What’s the funniest kitchen mess you’ve ever made?
Why This Soup Feels Like a Hug
This soup is more than just food. It is a warm blanket on a cold day. The simmering pot fills your home with a happy feeling.
That feeling matters. Taking time to cook for yourself is a way to be kind to you. It is a small act of love.
Make It Your Own
Now, the best part is the toppings. I love the crispy bacon and parmesan cheese. But you can add what you love.
Maybe you like a sprinkle of red pepper flakes. Or some crunchy croutons. *Fun fact: The first canned tomato soup was sold in 1897.* What is your favorite soup topping?

Bacon-Infused Tomato Comfort: Creamy, dreamy, and divine
This soup feels like a warm hug on a chilly day. My grandpa taught me to cook bacon low and slow. He said good things come to those who wait. I still laugh at that. The smell of bacon fills the whole house. It makes everyone’s stomachs start to rumble.
Here is how we make our cozy tomato soup. Follow these steps for a perfect, creamy bowl.
- Step 1: Grab your big, heavy pot. Cook the chopped bacon over medium-high heat. You want it nice and crispy. Take the bacon out and put it on a paper towel. Leave that tasty bacon grease right in the pot. (Hard-learned tip: Don’t pour the grease down the sink! It can clog the pipes.)
- Step 2: Now, let’s cook our onions in that lovely grease. Stir them until they get soft and see-through. Doesn’t that smell amazing? Add the garlic and flour. Stir it for a few minutes. This makes the soup nice and thick. Then pour in the broth and tomatoes. Give it a good stir!
- Step 3: Let the soup bubble, then turn it down to a simmer. It needs to cook for about 20 minutes. This is when the flavors become best friends. What’s your favorite cozy meal to make? Share below! After it simmers, we make it smooth. Use your immersion blender carefully. No splashes, please!

Three Tasty Twists to Try
This soup is wonderful as it is. But sometimes, it’s fun to change things up. Here are a few ideas from my kitchen to yours.
- Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic. It gives the soup a little warm buzz.
- Veggie Delight: Skip the bacon. Use a spoon of olive oil to cook the onions. It’s still so full of flavor.
- Herby Garden: Stir in a handful of fresh basil right at the end. It makes the soup taste like summer. Which one would you try first? Comment below!
How to Serve Your Masterpiece
A great soup deserves great friends. I love to serve this with a big grilled cheese sandwich. The gooey cheese is perfect for dipping. A simple green salad on the side is nice, too. For a fancy touch, add a dollop of cream on top.
What should we drink with it? A cold glass of milk is my go-to. It’s a classic. For the grown-ups, a simple glass of red wine is lovely. It sips nicely with the rich tomatoes. Which would you choose tonight?

Keeping Your Comfort Soup Cozy
This soup stores beautifully. Let it cool completely first. Then pop it in the fridge for up to four days. You can also freeze it for three months. I use old yogurt containers for freezing.
I once gave a frozen jar to my grandson for his new apartment. He said it felt like a hug from home. Batch cooking like this saves you on a busy night. It means a good meal is always close by.
Reheat it gently on the stove. Add a splash of broth if it’s too thick. Stir it often so it heats evenly. Have you ever tried storing it this way? Share below!
Simple Fixes for Soup Troubles
Is your soup too thin? Let it simmer a bit longer. The extra cooking time will thicken it up. Is it too acidic? Add that pinch of sugar. It balances the tomatoes perfectly.
I remember when I first forgot the sugar. The soup was a little too sharp for my taste. Getting the flavor right builds your cooking confidence. It makes the whole meal more enjoyable.
Bacon burning? Your heat is likely too high. Cook it on medium for perfect crispness. Which of these problems have you run into before?

Bacon-Infused Tomato Comfort: Creamy, dreamy, and divine
Description
Creamy, bacon-infused tomato soup for the ultimate cozy comfort. This easy, savory recipe is pure warmth in a bowl. Perfect for a quick, satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Instructions
- In a large dutch oven over medium-high heat, cook the bacon until crisp. Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon pieces to a plate lined with a paper towel to drain, leaving the bacon grease in the pot.
- Carefully spoon away all but about 4 tablespoons of the bacon grease and return the pot to medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 5 to 8 minutes, or until tender and translucent. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant – about 1 minute. Add the flour and stir to combine. Cook, stirring constantly for about 3 minutes. Add the chicken broth and whisk to combine. Add the tomatoes and sugar*. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook uncovered for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Carefully use an immersion blender to puree the soup until smooth, being sure to keep the blender head close to the bottom of the pot to prevent splattering. Adjust the seasoning to taste. Serve topped with the crispy bacon pieces and a sprinkle of shredded parmesan cheese.
Notes
- *Adding a small amount of sugar helps to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
